Should You Consider Prescription Anti-Aging Hormones?
Some people these days are turning towards prescription anti-aging hormones in their quest to look and feel younger. Perhaps you've even thought of this yourself. Before doing anything this dramatic, it is wise to learn as much as you can about this type of hormone therapy. Human growth hormone, or HGH, is the most commonly administered hormone for the purposes of anti-aging. Sometimes this hormone is used by bodybuilders to increase muscle mass, but most of the time it is used by older people who want to increase their vitality and longevity.
HGH is a growth hormone which is naturally made by the body and is not considered a steroid. The reason HGH is often confused with steroids is because it is an anabolic hormone. This hormone leads to height growth, but can serve other purposes as well. The strengthening of bone is one reason seniors often turn to HGH. Muscle building is another function of this hormone, due to its ability to synthesize protein and improve nitrogen balance. Some people swear that HGH is the new fountain of youth. However, you should be aware of the side effects before ever considering such a thing.
According to various studies that have been conducted using HGH, side effects can include pain and discomfort in the muscles, swelling, bloating, headaches and arthritis. One of the most dangerous side effects is that of high blood pressure. If your blood pressure is already high or borderline high, an increase could put you in the danger zone. Therefore, if you are thinking about using this hormone for anti-aging purposes you should talk at length with your physician.
Some doctors won't even touch the issue of prescription anti-aging hormones. So, you'll need to do some research to find a doctor who specializes in this area. You want someone who has lots of experience with these hormones. You want a doctor who understands the side effects and average results of hormone therapy for the purposes of anti-aging. Only after consulting with several specialists in this field should you consider getting this type of therapy for yourself. Make sure you understand all the potential risks and dangers, and make sure you get all your questions answered before proceeding. While HGH therapy can work well for some, it can be dangerous for others.
